How to make call In Low-Signal for better experience and quality call
Whether you’re traveling to rural places or just sitting in a basement at your home, we’ve all been stuck in situations before where the signal coverage and phone connectivity is very limited. It’s usually during these situations that we try out all the possible mobile phone reception hacks we know of such as moving towards the window in a room, reaching a higher ground area, et al. But, instead of trying these acts, there’s a certain technology that can totally amp up your cellular connectivity even in low-signal areas with zero mobile phone reception, and that is Wi-Fi Calling.
Wi-Fi Calling is a technology that has been around globally for few years now and simply uses a Wi-Fi connection to help you stay connected, without the need of any telephone line. It has been particularly prevalent and famous in the context of over-the-top (OTT) applications including Skype, Google Duo, WhatsApp, and others.
This technology definitely helps enhance the overall connectivity, but to further amp up the networking game, say hello to Voice Over Wi-Fi, an improved tech that lets you make phone calls and send messages directly via your phone without any additional app.
All thanks to leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel, Voice Over Wi-Fi service was launched in India in December last year. Airtel is the first telecom operator to bring Voice Over Wi-Fi to India, which ensures a smooth and seamless networking experience no matter where you are. All you need is access to Wi-Fi and you’re good to go.
In case you’re wondering about the difference between regular Wi-Fi calling feature and Airtel’s Voice Over Wi-Fi technology, then they are manifold. For instance, you don’t need to have any SIM change and can keep using the same SIM you’re using for VoLTE. You don’t have to download an app or make any additional log-ins to avail it. Similarly, you don’t have to pay any extra charge to use it since it’s completely free.
You can also simply set it up as the default way of making phone calls while also keeping the VoLTE switched on. So, in case you’re making a Wi-Fi call, but it gets disconnected, the phone will seamlessly switch to VoLTE, ensuring a smooth handover and reduced drop calls. In a nutshell, Voice Over Wi-Fi helps bridge the network gaps by offering superior network experience in Indoor as well as rural areas.
To use the service, you need to have a smartphone that supports Wi-Fi Calling. If you’re an Android user, head to Settings > Wi-FI > Wi-Fi Preferences > Advanced. Now, you’ll need to simply switch on the Wi-Fi calling option. If you’re an iOS user, select Settings > Phone and turn on the ‘Wi-Fi’ calling option.
This service is available on all the broadband connections for all the major circles in India as well as on all the major smartphone companies including the likes of Apple, OnePlus, Samsung, and Xiaomi. Phones included in the list are the Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro, Galaxy J6, A10s, On6, M30s, S10, S10+, S10e, M20, Note 10, Note 9, Note 10+, M30, A30s, A50S, One Plus 7, One Plus 7T, One Plus 7Pro, One Plus 7T Pro, One Plus 6, One Plus 6T, iPhone 6s and above.
Airtel has roadmaps from all major OEMs about future releases. There are over 100+ devices covering 20 million Airtel customers that now come equipped with this capability. The company aims to have over 50 million Wi-Fi calling capable devices in the market by the end of March 2020.
Voice Over Wi-Fi is a great solution to all your common networking related woes. With just a stable Wi-Fi connection, the service ensures you always stay connected to your friends and family. What’s even great is that the service, first brought to us in India by Bharti Airtel, further reflects on all the efforts being made by Indian telecom operators to transform India into a more digitally connected nation.
