POCO F2 Pro: The Much-Awaited POCO F1 Successor Is Here

POCO F2 Pro: The Much-Awaited POCO F1 Successor Is Here

It’s finally here. Xiaomi spin-off POCO’s flagship phone - that makes use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor - has finally been announced. For most parts, the device shares its specifications with the Redmi K30 Pro that was announced in China last month. A successor to the POCO F1 has been long-awaited and the arrival of the POCO F2 Pro finally seems to redeem the wait for fans.

POCO F2 Pro: Display

The POCO F2 Pro has a full-screen design and doesn’t employ a punch-hole solution like the POCO X2. Instead, it houses a 20MP pop-up selfie camera. The display is a 6.67-inch OLED panel that - unlike the POCO X2 that has a 120Hz panel - unfortunately, tops out at 60Hz. The display has a 180Hz touch sampling rate.

POCO F2 Pro: Performance & Cooling

Before we talk about anything else, let’s address the performance on the POCO F2 Pro. Firstly, the phone is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC that is arguably the most powerful chip on any Android smartphone right now. The chipset is coupled with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage that further push performance.

The phone also has support for WiFi 6 and both sub 6GHz and mmWave 5G networks.

To keep things cool, the F2 Pro makes use of what POCO calls Liquid Cooling 2.0 that’ll help dissipate heat during gaming sessions. The phone makes use of 10 heat sensors around regular hotspots to accurately measure heat. It then tackles this heat by making use of multi-layer graphite, graphene, and a sizeable VC heat sink. POCO claims this liquid cooling technology will help it with sustained performance.

POCO F2 Pro: Camera

As for the cameras, the POCO F2 Pro has a quad-camera setup that’s enclosed in a circular module at the centre-back. The setup consists of a primary 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor; a 123° 13MP ultra-wide shooter ; a 2MP depth sensor; and a 5MP “telemacro” sensor. The “telemacro” sensor is basically a regular macro sensor that POCO claims can get closer to the subject.

The camera application has support for various modes like Portrait, Night Mode, Panoramas, Vlog Mode and various others that we’ve seen on similar Redmi and POCO phones. But one stand out feature of the POCO F2 Pro is its ability to shoot 8K@24fps videos. The phone also has support for Pro Video mode.

POCO F2 Pro: Battery & Charging

The phone is backed by a 4,700mAh battery that has support for 30W wired charging via its USB Type-C port. There’s no support for wireless charging on the POCO F2 Pro but it’s something we expected given its an affordable flagship.

POCO F2 Pro: Miscellaneous

What else? Well, it’s one of the few phones to still have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Other notable features include an in-display fingerprint scanner, NFC support, IR Blaster and a linear motor for improved haptic feedback.

The POCO F2 Pro runs on MIUI 11 atop Android 10 out of the box. Although, it ships with the POCO Launcher 2.0 instead of MIUI’s default launcher that we’ve seen on Redmi smartphones.

POCO F2 Pro Price:

The POCO F2 is priced followingly in the European market. The 6GB+128GB POCO F2 Pro variant costs EUR 499 whereas the 8GB+256GB variant costs EUR 599. The phone will be available in four different colours: Neon Blue, Phantom White, Electric Purple, and Cyber Grey.
